This is a highly prestigious role that provides an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to help shape the future of the university&#8217;s library services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Does the University Librarian Do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The University Librarian plays a crucial role in overseeing the management of ABU\u2019s main library, as well as its branch libraries and extensions. This includes providing library services to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring the university community has access to the best resources and information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Librarian will also be responsible for building strong relationships with local and international library organizations, as well as publishers, to keep the library up-to-date and well-equipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Qualifications and Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for the position, applicants must meet the following qualifications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Educational Background<\/strong>: A PhD in a relevant field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Experience<\/strong>: At least 15 years of experience in the library field, with a minimum of 5 years at the level of Deputy Librarian or its equivalent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Technical Skills<\/strong>: Proficiency in information technology and library automation is essential.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scholarly Achievements<\/strong>: A strong record of academic publications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Age Limit<\/strong>: Applicants must be under 65 years of age at the time of appointment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Professional Membership<\/strong>: Membership in relevant professional associations is required, and applicants must be registered with the Librarians&#8217; Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leadership<\/strong>: The ability to lead research initiatives within a university or similar environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conditions of Service<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The terms of employment are in line with the Federal University standards in Nigeria, with additional conditions determined by the University Council and Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Apply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested candidates should submit the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Application Letter<\/strong>: 30 copies, including a curriculum vitae.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Credentials<\/strong>: Photocopies of all academic and professional certificates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Confidentiality<\/strong>: Applications should be sealed in an envelope marked \u201cPOST OF UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, ABU, ZARIA\u201d and addressed to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Registrar and Secretary to Council<\/strong><br>Ahmadu Bello University,<br>P.M.B. 1045,<br>Zaria, Kaduna State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Referee Reports<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants are also required to request their referees to send confidential reports directly to the Registrar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deadline for Applications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for submitting applications and referee reports is <strong>six weeks<\/strong> from the date of this publication.
