The JAMB CAPS admission 2026/2027 process is now underway, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is urging candidates to verify their admission status on the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) before accepting any offers. This critical step helps prevent admission errors and ensures you’re making informed decisions about your university or polytechnic placement. If you’ve received a provisional admission offer from any institution, here’s what you need to know right now.

Why You Must Verify Your JAMB CAPS Admission Before Accepting

Many candidates rush to accept admission offers without properly verifying their details on JAMB CAPS. However, this can lead to serious problems later. JAMB has consistently warned that candidates should take time to confirm the accuracy of their admission information—including their name, registration number, chosen institution, and allocated programme—before clicking the ‘Accept’ button.

Furthermore, the verification process only takes a few minutes but can save you months of frustration. If there’s an error in your admission details, addressing it immediately is far easier than trying to correct it after acceptance.

2026/2027 Admission List Release and Deadlines

In September 2026, JAMB released supplementary admission forms for the 2026/2027 academic session, with registration deadlines clearly communicated to all institutions. The first admission list was released on JAMB CAPS in early October 2026. However, not all institutions released lists simultaneously—some colleges like Kwara State College of Education (KWCOE), Ilorin released their NCE dual mode admission lists later in the month.

Therefore, check your institution’s portal regularly to avoid missing any deadlines. Additionally, JAMB has set specific deadlines for candidates to respond to admission offers on CAPS.

How to Check Your Admission Status on JAMB CAPS

  1. Visit the official JAMB CAPS portal

  2. Log in using your UTME registration number and password

  3. Navigate to the ‘Admission Status’ section

  4. Review all your admission details carefully—name, institution, programme, and status

  5. Check for any inconsistencies or errors before proceeding

Understanding Your Admission Status: What Each Status Means

JAMB uses different status labels to communicate your admission situation. ‘Admitted’ means you’ve received a provisional admission offer. ‘Admission in Progress’ indicates your file is still being processed by your chosen institution. ‘Not Admitted’ means you didn’t meet the institution’s requirements for that programme. Understanding these distinctions helps you plan your next steps appropriately.

What does ‘Admission in Progress’ mean on JAMB CAPS

In addition, JAMB recently clarified confusion surrounding these status messages after numerous candidates misunderstood what they meant. If you see ‘Admission in Progress,’ don’t panic—it simply means the institution is still reviewing applications.

What to Do After Accepting Your Admission Offer
