If you’re planning to study at the University of Ibadan 2026 post-UTME, you need to know the exact requirements before you apply. The University of Ibadan (UI) remains one of Nigeria’s most competitive institutions, and understanding the admission criteria is the first step towards achieving your dream of studying in Africa’s premier university. In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about UI’s 2026 admission process, from UTME scores to post-UTME requirements.

University of Ibadan 2026 UTME Score Requirements

The University of Ibadan requires candidates to score 200 and above in the 2026 UTME examination. However, it’s crucial to understand that scoring exactly 200 makes you eligible to apply—it does not guarantee admission. Think of the UTME score as your entry ticket; having it only means you can sit for the post-UTME examination.

UI is highly competitive, and the actual cut-off score for various programmes often exceeds the minimum 200 mark. Therefore, aiming higher than 200 significantly improves your chances of gaining admission to your preferred course.

What Happens After Scoring 200 in UTME?

After meeting the 200 UTME score requirement, eligible candidates proceed to the post-UTME screening exercise. This is where UI evaluates your suitability for specific programmes. The post-UTME typically includes tests and assessments tailored to your chosen field of study.

The University of Ibadan’s selection process considers your UTME performance alongside post-UTME results, your O-Level grades (or equivalent), and sometimes your SSCE results. Therefore, preparing adequately for the post-UTME is just as important as your UTME preparation.

National Education Crisis and Its Impact on Admissions

Recently, states like Akwa Ibom declared education emergencies following poor performance in NECO examinations. The Akwa Ibom government approved 2,000 additional teachers and committed to educational reforms across secondary and tertiary institutions. While this doesn’t directly affect UI’s 2026 requirements, it highlights the broader challenges facing Nigeria’s education system.

As a prospective UI student, you should stay informed about these national education issues, as they often influence university policies and funding.

JAMB’s Expansion: UTME in Canada from 2027

Excitingly, JAMB announced that UTME registration for 2027 will commence soon, and there are plans to extend UTME examination centres to Canada from 2027. This expansion reflects JAMB’s commitment to making the examination accessible to Nigerian students abroad. If you’re considering studying in Nigeria or abroad, monitoring JAMB registration deadlines is essential.
