The West African Examinations Council has officially released the results of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, revealing a noticeable decline in overall performance compared to last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement issued Monday, WAEC\u2019s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the percentage of candidates who obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics dropped by 11.47 percentage points from 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Performance Statistics From the 2025 WAEC GCE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to WAEC, 42.17%<\/strong> of candidates earned credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a decline from 53.64% in 2024<\/strong> and 44.29% in 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the 65,752 candidates<\/strong> who sat for the examination, 27,727<\/strong> achieved the benchmark of five credits including English and Mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WAEC emphasized that results of private candidates should not be directly compared with those of school candidates, as private candidates sit examinations outside the formal school system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five Credits Achieved With or Without English and Mathematics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Further analysis shows that 33,989 candidates (51.69%)<\/strong> obtained at least five credit passes, with or without English Language and Mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration, Attendance and Examination Centres<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A total of 69,604 candidates registered<\/strong> for the examination, representing a 1.8% increase<\/strong> compared to 2024. Of these, 65,752 candidates<\/strong> sat for the exam across 370 centres nationwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Results Processing Status<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

WAEC disclosed that 61,943 candidates (94.21%)<\/strong> have had their results fully processed and released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, 3,809 candidates (5.79%)<\/strong> still have some subjects pending processing due to errors linked to their entries. The council said work is ongoing to finalize those results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Results Withheld Over Alleged Malpractice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The council also announced that 1,899 candidates (2.89%)<\/strong> have had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice. Investigations are ongoing, and affected candidates will be notified once final decisions are reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gender Breakdown of Candidates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

WAEC reported that 32,005 candidates (48.68%)<\/strong> were male, while 33,747 candidates (51.32%)<\/strong> were female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among candidates who secured five credits including English and Mathematics, 13,416 were male<\/strong> and 14,311 were female<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certificates and Access to Results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Candidates have been advised to check their results online and access digital copies of their certificates. WAEC added that hard copies of certificates can be requested through its certificate portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Enter your examination number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Select the examination year as 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Choose the examination type as PRIVATE CANDIDATES<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Enter your PIN and serial number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Click Submit<\/strong> to view your result.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
