Girei, Director of Academic Planning<\/strong>, on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary. According to the Commission, the decision followed a <strong>successful resource verification exercise<\/strong>, during which a panel of experts assessed the university\u2019s human and material capacity to run the programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Five New Degree Programmes Approved<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NUC confirmed that all five programmes have been approved <strong>strictly for full-time study<\/strong> at UNIMAID\u2019s <strong>main campus<\/strong>. The newly approved courses are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>B.Sc. Water Sanitation and Hygiene<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B.Sc. Broadcasting<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B.Sc. Local Government and Development Studies<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>B.A. History and Diplomatic Studies<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These programmes are expected to strengthen UNIMAID\u2019s offerings in environmental health, media and communication, governance, and humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Effective Start Date: 2025\/2026 Session<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the approval letter was issued in February 2026, the NUC made it clear that the programmes are to <strong>commence from the 2025\/2026 academic session<\/strong>, which should be treated as the official start date for academic planning and implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Full-Time Mode Only<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission emphasized that the approval <strong>covers full-time mode only<\/strong>. UNIMAID has been advised that any intention to run the programmes on a <strong>part-time basis<\/strong> will require <strong>fresh clearance and formal approval<\/strong> from the NUC before commencement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Approved Titles Must Not Be Changed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a clear directive, the NUC warned the university against altering the names of the approved courses.
