{"id":10199,"date":"2025-11-27T09:26:32","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T09:26:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/examkits.com\/blog\/?p=10199"},"modified":"2025-11-27T09:26:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T09:26:34","slug":"unimaid-set-to-graduate-record-20164-students-as-university-marks-50th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/examkits.com\/blog\/unimaid-set-to-graduate-record-20164-students-as-university-marks-50th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"UNIMAID Set to Graduate Record 20,164 Students as University Marks 50th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is preparing for one of the largest convocations in its history, announcing that <strong>20,164 students<\/strong> will graduate as the institution celebrates its <strong>25th Convocation Ceremony<\/strong> and <strong>50th Anniversary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice Chancellor, <strong>Professor Muhammed Mele<\/strong>, revealed the figures at a press briefing on Monday, highlighting the university\u2019s expanding academic capacity, rising research output, and major government-backed infrastructure upgrades reshaping the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Record-Breaking Convocation Class<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Professor Mele, the 2024\/2025 session produced one of UNIMAID\u2019s most diverse graduating classes across diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>66 PhD degrees<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1,020 Master\u2019s degrees<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3,851 Postgraduate Diplomas<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>13,624 Bachelor\u2019s degrees<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1,699 Diplomas<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For Bachelor\u2019s degree graduates, the VC disclosed the breakdown of results:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>205 First Class Honours<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3,114 Second Class Upper Division<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>9,501 Second Class Lower Division<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These numbers, he said, underline the university\u2019s academic strength and the growing number of high-performing students across key fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Federal Government Support and 12MW Solar Plant Transform Campus Operations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Mele praised the <strong>Federal Government<\/strong>, led by <strong>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR<\/strong>, for consistent funding that has supported academic programmes and infrastructure renewal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major highlight is the university\u2019s <strong>12MW hybrid solar power plant<\/strong>, which has significantly improved electricity supply for classrooms, laboratories, offices, and the Medical College.<br>The VC noted that this reliable energy source has reduced learning disruptions and boosted productivity across the campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>TETFund Investments Strengthen Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UNIMAID also received massive support from the <strong>Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u20a64 billion for new and upgraded infrastructure<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Over \u20a6700 million for new hostels in the Medical College<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Funding for a state-of-the-art Simulation Laboratory<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These investments, Mele said, are designed to expand enrolment in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy while improving hands-on training for medical students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Strong Backing from Borno State Government<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Borno State Government, led by <strong>Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, CON<\/strong>, received special appreciation for its direct support, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Staff housing projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modern laboratory equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scholarships and sponsorships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Solar-powered boreholes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General campus development support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These interventions have significantly improved learning and living conditions for students and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>UNIMAID at 50: Resilience, Growth, and an Endowment for the Future<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Marking five decades of academic service, UNIMAID is reflecting on its resilience during years of insecurity in the region.
